An Introduction to Wayne Miller by Kristina Marie Darling

Wayne Miller’s associative and elliptical narratives suggest that consciousness itself is fragmentary, that memory represents only our efforts to lend a sense of continuity to a gorgeously fractured experience of the world around us.  “We were together / in that daze of arrival,” he writes, evoking the uncanniness inherent in a cleanly constructed narrative arc. As Miller’s poems move “toward the bright colors of the future,” they slyly call attention to their own artifice, their own constructed-ness, in a way that is both self-aware and wholly genuine.
