“Sewing White Supremacy” weaves through the history of racism in America but focusing on one object (a Klan robe), and the author’s relationship to it. It echoes Eula Biss’s now-classic essay “Time and Distance Overcome,” forcing the reader to examine their own relationship to racism. The writing is both clear and layered, and the questions it asks shimmer with a dark energy.
