Swallow 5 by Kristy Bowen

A Process Note

Earlier this summer, I was badly in need of a book trailer for my new full-length book, SEX & VIOLENCE.  Since I had access to the full Adobe suite through my day job, I decided to start playing a round and discovered that piecing together something from public domain found footage was not that terribly difficult.  I was soon obsessed with them and wound up making five separate video poems for that project, and then just wanted to make more for other things.  There is something that appeals to my collage sensibilities, but expands that into movement and three dimensionality. Also, in the pandemic era, these are a trade for not having that many chances to do readings.   The swallow poems were a series written over a year ago, but I wondered what it might be like to create an evolving video chapbook of sorts with my new skills.  The individual videos vary in approach and style, but fit together nicely, and I look forward to completing the series before the year is over.
