“Two Roads / One Road” – by Mary Kathryn Jablonski & Laura Frare

A Process Note

“Two Roads/One Road” is a cornerstone for a larger collaborative project we are working on, a Video Chapbook for which Mary has received a grant.* Ultimately, the Video Chapbook will contain 5-8 of our collaborative video/poems (we don’t know yet which others). We knew we wanted to feature a dirt road in this video (a challenge); this one is in Vermont. Mary had the idea for Laura to film through the moonroof of her car, a second challenge! The poem text on the page pauses between two columns, and changes voice. Laura had the idea to reverse the direction of the footage at this place in the text, which suits the hindsight vision of the piece perfectly in a brilliant translation from page to film that could only happen with deep understanding and true open collaboration.
