from Plump by Kristy Bowen

A Process Note

My roots as a poet began in writing largely about myths and fairy tales and living inside other existing stories (mostly becuase I didn’t have much real-world experience to fuel my writing, so what else to write about but the stories I lived inside of?)  Not strange that I found myself back in a similar space once again, this time, with a set of different thematic concerns..  The text pieces and the images for plump developed simultaneously, which only happens sometimes and always yields delightful results–one aspect informing the other more closely this way.  I began with trying to create pieces that were very paper-theatre like in style.  Eventually the accompanying text pieces began to feel very similar to tiny dioramas or sets on which the story played out.
