Vacation in San Francisco by Guillermo M. Cancio-Bello

Before the others
I wake
to hear the quiet,

to listen in
as it performs
its loose fabric,

nor am I trying
too hard
to become anything,

only waiting
to hear the fog
press against the window,

its translucent body
one more thing
the mind can’t hold,

one more glimmer
for which we lift our eyes
in hope,

the way my wife
looks at me still,
ready to love me anyway.
