from Unusual Creatures by Kristy Bowen

A Process Note

unusual creatures is an evolving project incorporating collage, ephemera, installation, and text portions chronicling the unraveling of three generations of women. Set across the span of the early half of the 20th century, the narrative both lays itself out (and hides within) in letters, diaries, ephemera,  and notebooks of the Hunt women.  I was inspired both by the twisty narratives I made up of fictional families when I was a child, and the fractured narratives I try to capture in my current writing.  By the way that bits and pieces of a given life tell stories, and taken collectively, sometimes tell very terrible stories.  How  the overtness of text hides other texts inside it unspoken.  The end result is a puzzle full of blood and ghosts and madness.
